Letter From The Team

Cancellation of October, 2020 Show

First, we at Fayetteville Comic Con hope that everyone is well. Your health and well-being are extremely important to us and we had hoped that we would be able to see everyone in October. However, as Governor Roy Cooper has once again delayed the timetable for “Entertainment Complexes” (for example, the Crown Coliseum and Expo Center, our host venue) from being able to host inside events for more than twenty-five (25) people, we are forced to cancel Fayetteville Comic Con 2020, which was scheduled for October 17th and 18th of this year.

Original projections had the state potentially moving to Phase 3 on September 14th, which would have possibly increased the allowance of people in a space to 20% of occupancy. Fayetteville Comic Con staff were working diligently to plan a safe, albeit smaller event, allowing for “socially distancing”. Without having any foresight as to what may happen when Phase 2.5 expires on October 2nd, we cannot continue to invest in those alternate strategies. We were willing to take a significant hit financially, in order for our vendors, artists and fans to have a semblance of a convention experience, but with the venue under the tightest of restrictions, there is no sustainable alternative that can be offered that will make any show in October financially viable. The Crown Center administration has been very supportive during this time, but we were informed today that there will most likely be no events at the Crown for the remainder of the year.

The bad news gets worse, as we also anticipate that costs will increase next year for our shows, as we may be forced to limit the number of vendors and artists, so as to maintain compliance with any permanent restrictions that will be placed on “Entertainment Venues” in 2021.

For fans holding tickets from the Spring Show, your options are to either return them for refund at the Crown Expo Center Box Office (or other point of sale where you purchased) for refund.

For artist and vendors, if you had your registration for the October Show, either transferred from the Spring Show, or made directly for the Fall Show, we offer two options:

  1. Quite likely, the fees for Vendor and Artist space will increase in 2021 to cover the increased costs we as a company will be forced to absorb. If you have paid for a show in 2020, we can transfer those payments to the 2021 show, and keep the price what you have already paid. This will allow us to continue operations throughout the year and manage the cancellation costs that we will have from guests, travel expenses already paid and non-refundable down payments. In doing so, you also guarantee you have a spot for the Spring Show, even if we are forced to limit the footprint sold.
  2. We will refund your registration, once the venue releases our deposits, minus any fees associated with the payments (PayPal transaction fees, etc.). Registration for future shows will then be at the increased price.

The point is that we recognize that this has been a bad year for everyone, but we ask for your help in keeping us going by maintaining your registration with us for the next Show in April. This allows us to leverage registration against sponsorship opportunities, streamline the Spring Registration and keep the insurances and website costs covered until we see revenue in 2021.

Thank you for your support. Please contact Keith at fayettevillecomicon.kdg@gmail.com with any questions or concerns.
